Erastus and Josephine Whitehead Home

About

This home was built in the early 1880s by George Whitehead for his brother “Ras” Whitehead. It sits on a lava rock foundation and is built of adobe blocks handmade with straw, clay, and horsehair. Beams and wood structures are nailed with handmade square head nails.

Erastus & Josephine Whitehead raised seven children here.

This was the bed-and-breakfasts, An Olde Penny Farthing Inn and Ava House Inn & Spa. It is now a vacation rental, which can be reserved online at the Whitehead Home’s website.
