Looking for something unique, entertaining, and scary to take part in this Halloween season? If so, then the HorrorFest International Film Festival is for you! Presented by the nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU), HorrorFest International is a spine-tingling 4-day celebration of genre films–features and shorts–from all over the world. If programmers have done their job, many of these films will make you jump out of your skin but you can expect plenty of laughs and crowd-pleasing gems along the way, too.
This venerable festival started back in 2002 and in the early days, it was designed as a showcase for curated retrospective screenings of grand horror movies of yesteryear in a live theatrical setting. While that aspect of the festival will remain intact, HorrorFest has expanded its horizons in a big way over the last couple of years. This is to say that the fest has gone international. There will be plenty of titles from the BeeHive state and from all over the U.S. in general but you can also expect a handful of incredible films from around the globe as well.
It should also be noted that while HorrorFest International will be a grand and terrifying source of entertainment for attendees, it will also serve as a wonderful opportunity for filmmakers to network and experience the amazing cinematic work of their peers. Further still, genre films will only be the tip of the iceberg as HorrorFest International is also expected to offer up plenty of outstanding alternative programming. Included; Filmmaker Q&As, storyteller panels, a live script read, a VR station, live music, an after party, a live makeup effects demonstration, a 16mm popup theater, horror trivia, a quick turnaround filmmaking challenge showcase, a costume contest, an Awards Ceremony, and more!
And, of course, you can expect plenty of special guests! In fact, the 2020 festival welcomed the likes of genre fan faves Ted Raimi (“Evil Dead 2,” “Deadwax”) and Colin Cunningham (“Falling Skies,” Blood Drive,” & “Centigrade.”) It was quite the epic affair and this year’s festivities promise to be even bigger…And scarier!
HorrorFest International is the largest and longest-running genre film festival in the area and programmers pride themselves on giving attendees the best show possible. What’s more, this is the perfect event to usher in Halloween! It will take place from Wednesday, October 20th thru Saturday, October 23rd at the historic Electric Theater. It really is the most fun you’ll ever have being scared.
